Bearing housings do much more than just act as the container for the rest of your bearing assembly’s components. Firstly, they provide a rigid and stable platform for the bearings to operate within. Second, along with the end cover sections they provide a clean and sealed environment for those same bearings and allow the chosen lubricant (typically grease) to be the most effective. Low quality bearing housings won’t provide true mating surfaces to create that seal against. As a result the lubricant may become contaminated leading to increased wear on the bearings.
