We also provide expert advice on determining the right metal composition for your specific application, which is especially important when pumping slurry of a particularly high or low pH. Other factors include pump operating speed, particle sizing and hardness – all contributing to the choice of material.

A slurry pump volute is the spiral-shaped casing that surrounds the impeller and forms the heart of the pump’s hydraulic design. Its expanding geometry captures the high‑velocity slurry discharged from the impeller and efficiently converts that velocity into pressure, delivering consistent, reliable flow even in demanding abrasive applications.

Engineered for durability, the volute also serves as a primary wear surface. Depending on the application, it may be constructed from various  high‑chrome white iron to withstand erosion, corrosion, and heavy solids loading. The volute’s internal profile—including the cutwater, throat area, and spiral expansion—directly influences pump efficiency, operating life, and overall performance
